US-based equipment rental company United Rentals has launched a new online training centre – United Academy – as a hub for safety training and operator certification.

Accessible in English, French and Spanish, the web address for the site is www.UnitedAcademy.ur.com

United Rentals is the largest rental company in the world, ranking No 1 in the IRN100 list of the top global 100 rental companies.

It said the United Academy encompassed a wide range of courses related to jobsite safety and compliance, including operator certifications for aerial and excavation equipment, OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour classes, confined space entry and competent person training, and train-the-trainer certification.

Additionally, it said the site facilitated training management tools for employees and employers, as well as corporate account benefits.

It said classroom training could be performed at customer locations or at a United Rentals locations in the US and Canada. It said select courses were also available online to minimise disruptions during the workday.

United Rentals said it would also begin offering blended learning for certain programs in its United Academy curriculum - a technique that integrates online instruction and examination with a face-to-face, practical evaluation at a participating branch.

It said blended learning courses for boom lift and scissor lift operators would be available starting in mid-July, followed by counterbalance and rough terrain forklift certifications.

United Rentals CEO Michael Kneeland said the company believed that United Academy would be a powerful force for safety in the industry.

“It reflects our continued commitment to protecting construction, industrial and municipal workers through the practical application of professional education. The thousands of customers we train each year will now have even more resources at their disposal, including the latest innovations in training techniques."
