Skyjack has debuted a new leak containment system for its range of DC electric scissor lifts and has also announced folding guardrails are available for its ANSI-compliant SJ3219.

The Ecotray leak containment system prevents any potential leaks from hydraulic systems dripping onto floors and other internal components. The Skyjack system removes the need for “diapers” and is suited for sensitive areas such as work on decorative flooring, clean rooms and areas where hygiene and fear of chemical contamination are of concern.

“The idea of the so called diaper has been around for some time. However, they have proven cumbersome to employ and restrict key lift functionality, so we looked at something different,” said Kris Schmidt, product manager at Skyjack.

The company said its Ecotray ”has been designed for essential machine functionality in mind. Functions such as pothole protection, static strap use, access to the emergency stop, emergency lowering and the base controls.” The system is protected from jobsite debris damage, forklift handling and other influences that can hinder leak containment.

Available as a factory install or field kit option, the system is available on Skyjack’s range of Ecotray-ready DC scissors. The system uses a series of catchment trays that contain absorbent pads, which can be quickly and easily replaced. As a field kit, Ecotray can be fitted within 10 minutes and has been designed to be installed without the need for tools. The changing of absorbent pads takes seconds and replacements are available directly from Skyjack. A distinct label shows that the machine is fitted with the system to allow rental companies, operators and customers to identify the machine with an eco-friendly system.

“Unlike other systems that focus on the main hydraulic tray, Ecotray also protects against leaks from drive motors and steering cylinders,” Schmidt said.

Skyjack also announced its ANSI-compliant SJ3219 is now supplied with RapidFold guardrails as standard. The new system allows the top of the platform rails to quickly fold down and enable access through standard doors and other areas with restricted space.

With the introduction of ANSI 92.20, the requirement for additional rail height, when applied to SJ3219 scissor lift designs, meant that the machines would no longer fit through a standard 80-inch door or entryway. The addition of Skyjack’s RapidFold restores the ability to fit through doors with ease, the company said.

The rails feature a quick release mechanism that takes only seconds to fold the rails to under 80 inches. Once through the door, the rails can be raised back to the required rail height.

“RapidFold is both quick and easy to use, but more importantly it means that we have not had to employ expensive systems that would have impacted customers at a price level and led to compromises in other performance areas,” said Schmidt. “I am happy to say that this means the Skyjack SJ3219 model is the lightest scissor lift on the market that’s wind rated to full height for one person, still maintains a two person no wind rating, and is capable of going through a standard door.”
