JLG has redesigned two of its SkyTrak telehandler models for the North American equipment market, making the models more compact and adding new technology features.

The new SkyTrak 6034, which replaces the 6036 model, and 6042 telehandlers now have a streamlined profiles for easy transport, with both offering a width of 95in, heights of under 99in (2.41m) and respective wheelbase lengths of 110in and 122in.

Fitted with smaller tyres, it also means the machines have a smaller turning radius.

According to JLG, the new dimensions mean a the smaller 6034 can be transported by a pick-up truck and trailer, with a standard flatbed trailer able to carry three 6034 telehandlers or two 6042 models.

At their respective maximum lifting heights of 34.5ft (10.5m) and 42.5ft (12.9m), the 6034 and 6042 have retained the lifting capacities of their predecessor models and can lift up to 4,000lb (1.8 tonnes) and 6,000lb (2.7 tonnes).

Key benefits for rental companies and owners of larger equipment fleets include a simplified boom design that JLG says helps to reduce maintenance and servicing costs.

The new boom incorporates a “single compensation and lift cylinder design that relies on fewer components” and a top-mounted telescope cylinder that is easier to access. Added to this, the telehandlers also have 30% fewer hydraulic hoses and connections, which further reduces the number of potential leak points.

On the technology side of things, both the 6034 and 6042 are equipped with JLG’s Advanced Control System for machine diagnostics, an updated Load Stability Indication system with colour-coded visuals and improved telematics connectivity.

In addition, the models have also been fitted with improved operator cabs, that are equipped with a larger LCD display screen and an electric over hydraulic joystick with auxiliary functions that enables single-handed operation.
