Germany-based construction and industrial hoist manufacturer Geda Dechentreiter will supply tower crane hoists to French rental company Matebat.

Under the cooperation, announced at Intermat 2018, in Paris, Matebat will equip its fleet of rental Potain tower cranes with Geda 2 PK crane operator hoists.

As of 2019, French legislation will require a crane operator hoist to be installed on all cranes with a lifting height of 30m and above. In response the two companies jointly developed technical solutions to make the assembly of the Geda 2 PK easier and quicker. Additional safety features allowing operators to step safely between car and crane mast have also been designed.

“Our partnership with Geda enables us to increase the safety and reliability on building sites by means of unique solutions related to assembly, service and maintenance,” said Philippe Cohet, managing director of Matebat.

The 2 PK can transport the crane operator to a height of 150m as standard. The hoist can also act as an emergency device to rescue unconscious or unwell crane operators very quickly, rather than using a helicopter, as is generally required.

Johann Sailer, managing director of Geda, said, “With the Geda 2 PK crane operator hoist we are able to offer our customer Matebat a solution for the French market, which already complies with the future rules coming into effect as of 2019.”
