JLG announced in February its new fork-mounted, personnel work platform for use with JLG, Gradall, Lull and SkyTrak telehandlers.

JLG Industries offers two types of work platforms for its telehandlers in North America. The fork-mounted or slip–on type is available on all of its machines with the exception of the compact line (G5–19A and G6–23A). It also offers a platform that can be directly coupled to the machine on the JLG and Gradall brands. Neither of these platforms allows the operator to move the machine from the platform.

JLG told ALH, meanwhile, that its TF6–42 Transformer model – a hybrid aerial platform and telehandler – has been discontinued for the time being. However, JLG's Brian Boeckman says the company still believes in the concept of the machine and at some point in the future it may return.

Several options that allow the attachments on specific models with added safety systems are available from Manitou North American. From the MT Series, those models are the 6034, 6642 and 8044; for the MRT series those are the 1432 and 2150 rotating telescopic handlers. The added safety systems on the MRT models are, according to Manitou North

America's Construction and Agricultural Product Specialist Ryan Ford, combined with the load moment indicator system of the trucks and prohibit exceeding capacity on the platform or putting the unit and operator in a hazardous situation. The platform includes a full control box that provides all truck functions except drive. Operators can rotate the turret, boom in/out, up/down and can rotate and level the platforms.

The company offers two standard platforms with an 800 and 2,200 pound capacity, which can hold three workers. Because of the outriggers on the MRT Series, the platforms can be wider than the average platform found on traditional fixed frame telehandlers.

For the MT series of trucks there is a safety feature called the “Work Platform System” that has a kill switch that allows the person in the work basket to stop movement if he is put in a hazardous condition. Another option for the three MT Series trucks is a radio control that allows one–person operation with the remote control.

Mustang has added the option of radio remote boom control to its 742, 944 and 1155 telehandler models. The system allows the telehandler boom to be raised and lowered, extended and retracted – all from the remote control pendant. In addition, operators can also shut–down or start–up the engine with the remote.

The radio remote boom control system is a separate option, meaning buyers do not have to purchase any additional options, such as a work platform attachment, to have the remote control added to their units. The remote control can also be used with truss boom, forks and other attachments.

Star Industries’ Model 1208GLZR work platform has a material deck on the outside of the guardrails that allows various materials to be set on. The company says the deck is ideal for doors, windows, drywall and other products, with a load capacity of 600 pounds. The platform has adjustable vertical standards that support the load. When being used, the material is strapped to these standards before hoisting up.

The company also offers a family of work platforms that are offered in the slip–on fork style ranging from 4 to 16 foot. These baskets are designed to fit both extendable reach and straight mast forklifts. The Quick–Tach models come in 4 to 10 foot sized platforms and are built for specific makes and models of forklifts that are equipped with the quick–attach feature.
